22 major languages, 13 different scripts, over 720 dialects, diverse cultures, different faiths bound together by one single thread, India!

To any traveler’s mind, the image of India is like a palette of colors, ruddy weather-beaten faces and vibrantly colorful attires. Our country is marked for its hyperbolic celebration of festivals – Holi, Eid, Pongal, Dussehra, Bihu, Ganesh Chaturthi, Christmas – all celebrated with equal fervor.

Northeast India is home to naturally hospitable people with hearts warmer than their hearths and bigger than their homes. Area J1 comprises North Bengal and Sikkim, and Siliguri Toastmasters Club is the first club from this area. The club has members of diverse cultures, speaking different languages but they all share a common roof at Toastmasters.
When called to celebrate ‘Cultural Diversity’ on 17th August 2018, the members were fervid. The members chose to wear not only their own traditional attire but also came dressed in other communities’ ethnic attires. The morning of 17th August 2018 witnessed a colorful meeting with all its members dressed in colorful Rajasthani, Nepali, Bengali and Punjabi attires. The Table Topics Master had prepared topics related to the theme of the day – Cultural Diversity. One of the prepared speakers spoke about how India is an incredible country despite its various shortcomings.
We, at Siliguri Toastmasters Club, respect this diverse ethnicity and we can proudly say that not only we willfully adapt and adopt each other regardless of the different backgrounds we may belong to, but also we find happiness in the fact that in sharing such rich individual heritage we learn from each other and grow together incessantly.
