Promises are both simple and powerful. It is more than a verbal commitment. Holding up to your promises, however small it may be shows your convictions, dependability and trustworthiness. On a daily basis, many of us promise several things either to our own self or others like –
I promise I will start exercising from tomorrow
Next time I will come on time I promise and many more.
Promises generally spring out from the intentions to do better or to improve further. Let me cite an example from my life. For a very long time, I had been an introvert and always wanted to conquer my fear of the stage. Talking to people or speaking out loud in the public domain was a dream which I had believed will never come true. There were many opportunities that had come knocking at my door, to help me fight my fears, but every time I chose to keep the door closed, saying next time. So last year, when I got to know about the Toastmasters organization, I decided that I will open this door and let the light in. Enough of saying next time, it’s now or never. With this promise and spirit I took the first step and joined Toastmasters.
And it’s been exactly six months that I have been a part here. With every meeting that I attend it makes me feel proud of the promise that I made to myself. Coming to the podium extinguishing my fears and speaking my mind out, sets in a sense of accomplishment and adds up to my confidence. It strengthens my promise which I made to myself 6 months back.
So recently when my VP Membership approached me for renewal, without a second thought I knew that I have to be here, to walk on to this wonderful path. It is the only way to keep my spirit revived and live up to the promise that I made to myself, because
PROMISES ARE MEANT TO BE KEPT AND RENEWED!!!
