The Imperfection of Progress: Advice to Myself
In life, new beginnings are essential for personal growth and achievement. Often, I feel the need to plan everything perfectly before starting something new. However, this mindset often stops me from taking the first step.
Austin Kleon, in his book “Steal Like an Artist”, wisely says: “You don’t need to be a genius, you just need to be yourself.” This quote reminds me that creativity and success come from action, not from waiting for everything to be perfect.
I think about all the new things I can start. Learning a new language can help me understand different cultures. Playing a musical instrument can bring joy and offer a new way to express myself. Growing a terrace garden can connect me with nature and give me a sense of accomplishment. These activities might not make me a professional, but they can still enrich my life.
It’s important to remember that not all new beginnings will lead to great success. The value of starting something new lies in the journey itself, in what I learn and experience along the way. Each step I take, even if it’s not perfect, helps me grow and discover more about myself.
I often wait for the perfect moment or perfect idea, only to find that such moments rarely come. The leaps taken, despite imperfections, often make me achieve more than I imagined. Starting, even if it’s uncertain or imperfect, sets the wheels of progress in motion.
I should celebrate new beginnings for what they are: the start of a journey. They don’t need to be perfect or grand. Just starting is enough to promise progress. As I begin something new, I should remember that the journey, with all its ups and downs, shapes me. I should embrace the process, learn from mistakes, and appreciate the growth that comes from taking action. Perfection is not the goal—progress is.
In conclusion, I’ll let go of the need for perfection and embrace new beginnings. The path may be imperfect, but it’s through these steps that I move forward, grow, and reach my true potential. As Kleon reminds me, being myself and starting, even imperfectly, is the key to creative and personal success.
